The students of ICRA have been asked to assist Anderson's Maple Syrup company with two projects.  In the first, the students will assist Anderson's staff with obtaining the GPS locations of specific maple trees for their new "Adopt a Maple" program.  For the second, students will develop research projects that will monitor the sap production of various trees and determine the environmental conditions that impact sap flow.  Even though we have not officially started our work we have been mentioned in the following Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article.  Click Here: Maple Syrup Article

Students Recognized at Leadership Luncheon

On Tuesday, March 2 the ICRA students met at Skiddies to recognize student leadership skills.  Many parents joined us for the celebration.  Superintendent Barry Rose was the guest speaker and share thoughtful insight into the skills of being a leader.  Mr. Jim Sciacca, Mrs. Julie Blackaller, and Mr. John Brown also participated in the activities.  Click here to see photos from the event.

Winter Fest
Students enjoyed a beautiful winter day at Christie Mountain.  They were able to select from skiing, snowboarding, and tubing.  Click here for photos.

Students Learn About Engineering

Students learned about many uses of engineering through classroom activities and by visiting local businesses.  Students visited the Cumberland Airport, Romeo Aviation and 3M.  They had a better understanding of the importance of engineering after asking many questions and seeing first hand how engineering skills are used everyday.


Two ICRA Students Qualify for the District Spelling Bee




The students pictured finished in the top 20 during the qualification round of district spelling bee after competing against more than 350 students.  Both students made a strong showing in the spell down on January 26, 2010.

Archery Team Prepares for State Competition
Students of the Island City Archery Club are preparing for the National Arch
ery in the Schools State Competition in Wisconsin Rapids on March 27, 2010.  The archery club is run by volunteer Betsy Hart and students practice at the Country Store's archery range.  We appreciate the Country Store donating the use of the archery range.  This is the first year for the club and the students are very excited to be attending the state competition.  GOOD LUCK!  Click here for photos.

Three Students Raise Over $500 for Haiti!!!
The students pictured decided to help raise money for Haiti by sewing spirit scarves.  The students made approximately 44 scarves at first but sold out very quickly and took orders for additional scarves that brought their total funds to over $500.  Great job girls!  Thank you to everyone that bought a spirit scarf!  The students of the district have raised $7,000.00 total!!!
